I’ll introduce myself. My name’s Terrie, and I’m a photographer.
Photography has fascinated me since I was tiny. I remember being completely obsessed with family photo albums at my nan’s house, and pretending to take pictures with my toy camera from the age of three. I even won a camera in an art competition when I was six. I guess that was a sign. I didn’t become a photographer professionally until later in life, although I dabbled in photography and painting during my years in London. I’ve always immersed myself fully in life — keen to experience everything and feel it all properly.
The bizarre and unusual
Bizarre and unusual things have always happened to me, and I always wanted to share those stories with my friends, but words never felt like enough. There were too many tiny details, colours, moments, nuances and feelings that got lost in translation. So I started taking photographs instead. For me, seeing the world through my camera feels like stepping into a different version of reality. I notice every detail, every tiny movement, the playful interaction of colours when they touch. I’m good at getting the best out of people, and I genuinely see beauty in everything around me. People seem to connect with that in my work. After a couple of years of photographing professionally — while still wondering whether I was actually any good — I decided to take the leap and do it full-time. I opened my first studio in 2014, and here I am, 12 years later. I don’t care whether I’m photographing beautiful people or spoons — I love all of it. Truly.
Where discipline meets creative vision
Over the years I’ve thrown myself into learning as much as I possibly can: photography and lighting, retouching, composition, storytelling, art direction, set building, location scouting, styling and grooming, scouting and developing models, and production. I also have a background in sales and marketing, which helps me create images that are not only beautiful, but genuinely useful for businesses too.
My work has been published in national press more than 50 times. I’ve shot magazine covers, album covers, worked with celebrity clients, had work exhibited, and displayed on billboards.
And I’m only just getting started.
